Cambodia has captured international attention after renowned Chef Sao Sopheak claimed first prize at the International Village of Gastronomy in Paris. His innovation dessert, titled “Egg in the Nest,” stood out among dozens of entries, impressing judges with its creativity, refined presentation, and use of traditional Cambodian ingredients. The official announcement was made by H.E. Luy David, Cambodian Ambassador to France, who expressed pride in Cambodia’s rising profile on the global culinary stage.

The prestigious event was held from September 11 to 14 along the scenic Seine River, near the iconic Eiffel Tower. It brought together culinary experts, chefs, and enthusiasts from 62 countries, all gathered to celebrate the diversity of world cuisine. This year, Cambodia was given the special title of Guest of Honour, a recognition that allowed the Kingdom to showcase the richness of its culinary traditions and innovations.

Chef Sao’s collaboration with the Paul Dubrule Vocational School of Hospitality and Tourism further emphasized Cambodia’s commitment to advancing culinary education and professional training. Together, they conducted live cooking demonstrations, giving thousands of visitors an opportunity to witness Khmer cooking techniques and taste authentic flavours firsthand.

At Cambodia’s pavilion, international guests sampled signature products such as Kampot pepper, palm sugar, dried mango, and prahok, while learning about cultural symbols like the krama, Cambodia’s traditional scarf.

The landmark win is more than a personal triumph – it positions Khmer cuisine as world-class, inviting food lovers everywhere to discover Cambodia not only as a travel destination, but also as vibrant center for culinary excellence.
